Dr. Dan Obert was an engineer and a member of a cult. He was responsible for Rick Chaplain's first assistant, Christine, disappearing, because she asked too many questions about Building Eight and the Benway Wave Modulator, and he attempted to abduct Bettie Page after she became curious about Christine's disappearance after discovering an expensive bottle of Chanel No. 5 in her desk drawer, which previously belonged to Christine.
Dan was shot and killed by the police after Rick and two police officers arrived at Building Eight after Rick saw the note that Bettie had left behind.
