History[]
Don Diego de la Vega was the first Zorro on Earth-818793. He operated during the period of American history later referred to as "The Wild West", making him one of the first masked vigilantes. Vega created the Zorro identity sometime in the late-1820s and retired sometime in the mid-1800s.
In 1870, Vega (now in his sixties) became Zorro one last time to assist a small tribe of Chumash Indians from a group of renegade Confederate soldiers. Though Vega was killed in the skirmish, his death provoked another vigilante, The Lone Ranger, to assist the Indians and avenge the death of Zorro.
Almost seventy years after his death, Zorro continued to inspire others to stand up against injustices. In 1938, Rafael Vega (a native resident of California and possible descendant of Don Diego), took on the mantle of Zorro to combat The Black Police in New York City.
