Doctor Gerhard Zorn was a German soldier during The Great War who experienced the effects of mustard gas first hand. After surviving his encounter with the gas, Zorn found himself in the mystical city of Shambhala, where he trained to harness his psychic abilities alongside Kent Allard. Due to his fractured psyche, Zorn snapped and killed the teachers in Shambhala.
After years of searching, Allard (now calling himself The Shadow) found Zorn in New York's Chinatown in 1929. The Shadow gained the upper hand in a confrontation between the two on top of a subway car and decapitated Zorn with a cable.
