History[]
Hephaestus is the master builder of the Olympic gods and fashioned all of their weapons for them. He is married to Aphrodite and the couple embarked upon a challenge to see which of them was best capable of creating true life. Aphrodite's answer to the wager was creating Galatea, the living sculpture. Hephasestus had previously created a series of clockwork servants known as the Automatons, but in response to the challenge, he attempted to create a mechanical philosopher, resulting in Talos. When Aphrodite disappeared shortly after Talos's creation, Hephaestus suspected that the construct had abducted her as a form of rebellion against its creator. He dispatched Hercules to defeat Talos and rescue Aphrodite. However, while Hercules successfully defeated the mechanical creature, we was unable to locate Aphrodite. Hephaestus was then captured in his own steel net by Hades, whom he realized was also his wife's true abductor.
