Jan lived with her brother, Jace, and their father, Dr. Jarrod Keplar at the Galactic Federation's Omicron space colony. The colony was eventually attacked by space pirates, and Dr. Keplar sent a distress signal to Space Patrol, but he received no answer. He was killed by the pirate Tansut immediately afterward. Jan and Jace attempted to flee, but the pirates Brak and Sisto abducted them after posing as Galactic Patrol officers. Thankfully, the children were rescued by the cosmic vigilante Space Ghost (Earth-UU0091), who took them and their pet monkey, Blip, to his base on the Ghost Planet. He then trained the children to be his sidekicks so that they could seek justice for their father's death.
