Kazuko was a child from the Clan Natsu, and married Bato of Clan Fuyu in order to bring the two clans together and end the war between them. She was on her way to the Clan Fuyu castle with her mother, when assassins from Clan Fuyu attacked. Red Sonja came to their aid, but Lady Natsumi was struck in the throat by a dagger, and died instantly. Sonja then protected Kazuko, and even taught her to use a knife, something which would later be needed when they were attacked yet again.
