Kil Gor was once a mighty Heliumite warrior who fought in the Battle of Zodanga. He was ashamed of the battle despite the Heliumites victory, and so, when Dejah Thoris talked to him about looking into the battle, he had his son, Gor Mordas, sabotage Dejah's expedition. The sabotage cost the lives of two of Dejah's servants, four of her friends, and the lives of many of Helium's soldiers, as they were killed by the White Apes which dwelt in the nearest shelter after the ship landed due to 'technical difficulties'.
