Dr. Peyton Westlake was a brilliant scientist working on a temporary synthetic skin to help burn victims. A confrontation with a greedy businessman and his gangsters leaves Westlake's lab destroyed, his face horribly scarred, body burned and unable to feel pain. Using the synthetic skin to appear as almost anyone, Peyton exacts his revenge upon those who took his life from him as Darkman.

- Peyton Westlake/Darkman first appeared in the 1990 film Darkman, written and directed by Sam Raimi. In the first Darkman film, Westlake was played by Liam Neeson, in the second and third films, he was played by Arnold Vosloo. In the television pilot, Westlake was played by Christopher Bowen.
