Synopsis for "Long Way Back Home, part 3"Edit

Valera Is in the arctic snowy regions and is disgruntled with herself for running and being fearful of Kulan Gath, but she vows no more. She see it is better to turn the Scorpion back to land than face a certain icy death. A snowy rider upon a horse reveals not his name, but the knowledge that he possesses to foretell people the hour of their death. Suddenly his horse as well as the other riders with them all fall into the ocean, and he thinks it's strange. Another underwater view of the gaping mouth of a whale (the old god) juxtaposed to the chain mail clad Red Sonja.

Red Sonja Vol 1 24 Whale

The task of Sonja is to save the remaining crew members, as she has already lost Suumaro. "My heart beat blurs my vision, it's like thunder in my chest! But I hold inside me something that no other mortal can claim... the blessing of the goddess. I shall not bow down. I shall not falter. I shall not run." She brings the Whale god up from the deep with the intent of destroying her ship, because the pirates can only be released from their living death by the destruction from the Whale god. The assault endangers her crew and off on the back of another whale is the unnamed mask man that states "This is not the death I saw for myself, how can that be? But surely this is where I die frozen to the back of a whale!"

As the ship is destroyed Caska brings crew members, even flying Osin, to the floating wood and barrel remnants of the ship. Sonja then takes a spear and drives it deeper in an old wound on the whales head. It seems the undying skeleton crew and the Old Whale god had a mutual death pact. With the Whale god taking the skeleton crew to the depths, the masked unknown man understands his premonition. He introduces himself to Sonja and the crew and offers a ride for them on the back of a pod of whales, but states they need not know his name, and he is much like Sonja a walking blessing and a curse. They meet Valera and disembark on her vessel the Scorpion and Valera asked Sonja where the masked man, Calibas went? She states they parted ways, but Valera does not seem so sure of that. A closing glimpse of Kulan Gath, with his princess prisoner, are enjoying a lavish meal more than enough for the entire combined crews that were just rescued. The princess mentions that Sonja is alive and returns. Kulan Gath is enraged.
