Rick Chaplain founded the company Pasadena AeroSpace Technologies while he was still rather young. He had been interested in rocket science and engineering since he was a child, which had inspired him to make his company.
Rick spent a lot of nights working in the labs and not a lot of time with his wife, Helena. Helena then had an affair with Rick's friend, and he hasn't seen either of them since then. He is still married to Helena as the divorce papers were never filed as Rick had no idea where to file them.
In 1951, Rick met Bettie Page, a model who was running from the Feds after they conducted a raid on a building in which Bettie was being photographed. Rather than stopping Bettie, he offered her some help and a job as his assistant after Christine, his previous assistant, had mysteriously disappeared. Rick drove to the airport with Bettie, and they flew to Pasadena, where Rick introduced Bettie to her new colleagues.
Bettie was later abducted, but managed to write a note so that Rick could find her. Rick, and the police, arrived at the location she said she was being taken to, where Bettie was able to escape and the abductor was shot several times.
