Wolfgang was a crew member aboard the German submarine U-184 during the Great War. The vessel was sunk during an attack by a giant squid and Wolfgang and the other survivors washed up on an uncharted Pacific island. The submarine's captain, Otto, led the men in a climb to the island's highest ground. During the climb, Wolfgang overheard an eerie cry and commented that he knew of no animal that made such a sound. Although, Wolfgang is never specifically depicted after that incident, it is presumed that he died before the end of the crew's fourth day on the island as, by that point, there were only five survivors, none of whom were Wolfgang.
