History[]
Xena was born on a rainy night sometime roughly around the year 100 BC to mother Cyrene and father Nelo. One of the first people to meet the infant Xena was Ash Williams, a time-traveling monster fighter from the 21st Century who would periodically have adventures with Xena throughout her life. During this "first meeting", Williams (who was distraught for believing he had failed to save the grown-up Xena during her "final battle") held the baby and told her that the life ahead of her would take her down a path of regret, but eventually she'll fight on the side of angels, and would encounter friends who believed in her, himself included[1].
Xena's life would indeed take her down a dark path, one that eventually led her to becoming the captain of a crew of pirates for a period of time. During this time, she would encounter Ash Williams again (who briefly became a member of her crew), and the two landed on a hidden island, which Williams discovered was the Garden of Eden[2].
Xena continued to follow the path of darkness and evil for sometime, though eventually an encounter with Hercules would encourage her to change her ways. Shortly after this, she met a woman named Gabrielle, who would travel with Xena as she continued her quest for redemption. After many years of traveling alongside Gabrielle, Xena was killed during her "final act of redemption", and her body was cremated.
Gabrielle, distraught at the loss of her companion, spent years searching for a way to bring Xena back to life, eventually turning to an ancient "Old One" named C'thulon, who could warp reality itself[3]. Gabrielle wished for Xena to come back "the way she was", but the Old One altered history so the more ruthless Xena (whom Gabrielle never encountered) never sought redemption. After sacrificing herself to put this "Dark Xena" on the path of justice, Gabrielle returned to her original timeline and found the "good" Xena who she had come to know over the years had indeed been resurrected, and the pair continued their journeys[4].
Sometime after Xena's resurrection, she was chosen by the Gods of Mount Olympus to combat the chosen warrior of the Egyptian Gods in the "Contest of Pantheons"[5]. With the accompaniment of Gabrielle, Autolycus, and Joxer, Xena discovered the contest was in actually a distraction initiated by Anubis in an attempt to take over Mount Olympus. Anubis and his armies were confronted and defeated by Xena and her companions[6].
While investigating the deeds of a miniature dictator using strange weaponry to enslave the residents of the Fairy Kingdom, Xena and Gabrielle had their first proper meeting with Ash Williams (who bore a striking resemblance to Autolycus). The conqueror of the Fairy Kingdom turned out to be a miniature doppelganger of Williams called "Ash-It" created by the forces of evil from the year 1300 AD[7].
When Ash-It's corrupted fairy army were defeated, Xena, Gabrielle, and Autolycus then found themselves summoned to the 21st Century to aid Ash in a battle against an army of Deadites threatening Detroit, Michigan. The four were then teleported into the worlds of several iconic novels and short stories after searching for the Necronomicon in a library (with Xena taking up the role of "The Tin Man" while in the land of Oz). After escaping the fictional realms, the four were in a reality where a Deadite clone of Xena had taken over the word thanks to the actions of Ash Williams while he was in Xena's time[8].
Several years later, Xena and Gabrielle had one final adventure with Ash Williams (now a 70 year-old man), battling the first human created by God and his Deadite army in the Garden of Eden[9][10].
Eventually, Xena seemingly did die, but legends of her actions were passed down through "The Xena Scrolls", a chronicle of her adventures written by Gabrielle. These "Xena Scrolls" eventually ended up in the hands of archeologist Melinda Pappas, a reincarnation of Xena living in the 1940s. In 1945, Xena's spirit would possess Melinda's body to aid Ash Williams and Janice Covington in a fight against Deadite Nazis[11].
